A Lost Childhood under Daesh

For many of us, playground sounds of crumpling crisp packets and squabbles over hopscotch induce deep childhood nostalgia. But for those living under the Daesh state, such basic memories are becoming less known and less familiar, as demonstrated in the soundtrack of the video above.

For Syrians forced to live under Daesh in territories in Syria as well as those who’ve made the unfortunate move into Daesh-held areas, childhood becomes synonymous with fear, violence and unhappiness. Far from being a place of security and heroism, the militant group are subjecting a whole generation to a life based on intolerance and a lack of education, and, as a result, they will be less equipped for cultivating a secure future for themselves and their families.

Together, we must recognise this reality and explain it to our loved ones.
