‘Don’t go to Syria’, says heartbroken father of two British boys killed in Syria

At only 16, Jaffar Deghayes decided to leave his family and home behind and fight alongside a rebel group in Syria. Last week, he became the second in his family to die for a cause that was not his own, just six months after his brother Abdullah.

‘The grief I have for my two sons cannot be described. My words fail to describe it’, the boys’ father, Abubaker Deghayes, said upon receiving the horrifying news. And he has a strong message:’ All young Muslims, however young and naive, who think to go to Syria out of kindness and to try to make a difference – do not go.’

In a desperate plea, Abubaker has begged his third son, Amer, who is still in Syria to come back home to his family.

Our heartfelt sympathies go out to the Deghayes family. The pain they must be going through is unimaginable, and we beg other families who are concerned that someone they know may be planning to travel to reach out and seek help.
